2018 Year In Review

“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” (Psalm 9:1)

Greetings faith family!

As 2018 comes to a close, I can’t help but ponder all that God has accomplished through our faith family this past year. I want to personally thank you for all of your support, prayers, and words of encouragement over the past year. You make this ministry a joy-filled endeavor!

I am excited about what God has accomplished through us in 2018! I wanted to write this letter to share and remind you of the impact we are having through our church plant in Frederick, MD and Washington, DC. It is my hope and prayer that you will not only look back and celebrate with us, but also look forward to and give you an opportunity to partner with us in 2019!

Looking Back in 2018

2018 Vacation Bible School (July)

For the first time in history, three Deaf churches in the Frederick area combined our efforts to provide a community-wide Vacation Bible School with our church as the host location. Our theme for this year is Armor of God, and about 24 children were in attendance. Most of the children are students at Maryland School for the Deaf, which is considered one of the top Deaf schools in America.

2018 Mission Trip to Taipei, Taiwan (July)

In partnership with Envision, a ministry of C&MA, a group of 12 men and women from Frederick, MD and Washington, DC traveled to Taipei, Taiwan with one purpose: to tell Deaf Taiwanese people that God loves them and desires to have an intimate relationship with them. And He gave us multiple opportunities through one-on-one encounters, special events, and a tri-lingual worship service to share the Good News with Deaf and Hearing people. We even had one couple come and visit us in Washington DC this past Fall!

Many are learning about Jesus & finding a church!

Partner with us today by making a year-end gift

In Frederick, we started offering Sunday morning worship services at New Design Church back in August, and we have about 10 people faithfully attend on a weekly basis. We regularly broadcast our services on Facebook, and 200-300 people watch us every week from all over the world. Even more: 9 people came to know Christ this past year, while 2 people decided to be baptized!

Bison Christian Fellowship commissioning a group from Youth With A Mission for their mission trip to Romania.

In Washington, DC through Bison Christian Fellowship, about 40 people gather for our Thursday Night Live gatherings every week (up from about 30 last year). Many of our students are finally finding a faith community where they know they are cared for and loved by others.

Church Planting Boot Camp (November)

Four men and women in addition to Mid-Atlantic District Church Planting Director attended a Church Planting Boot Camp at Beulah Beach in Ohio. This was a wonderful time for us to talk about where we want to go as a church plant. During our time together, God gave us a clear vision and a compelling calling: to partner with God in creating Gospel Access in the Deaf World.

Will You Partner With Us Today?

My heart continues to break knowing that many Deaf people lack access to the Gospel in sign language. Only 2-4% of all Deaf and Hard of Hearing people had the opportunity to hear the Gospel in sign language and decide to follow Jesus.

God has called our church to partner with Him in creating Gospel Access in the Deaf World, but we cannot do this alone! As a new church plant, we are dependent on your prayer and financial support. You can partner with us in fulfilling our vision by doing a few things:

  1. Pray for us regularly (sign up for our e-newsletter here)
  2. Make a tax-deductible year-end gift (before December 31, 2018)
  3. Give monthly to our church (we make it easy here)

Thank you for a wonderful year of ministry in Frederick, MD and Washington, DC! I am excited to share what we hope to accomplish with God’s help in 2019!

With appreciation and gratitude,

Pastor Bruce Persons
