This excerpt is from an e-mail letter sent out by Rev. Terry Smith, VP of Church Multiplication. May you be encouraged this week to prayerfully seek the Spirit of Christ as our advocate!

Dear Praying Friends,

Let’s face it. If it’s up to us and our own human strength, we can’t live the Christian life or carry out the mission Jesus has assigned to us. But it’s not up to us. Jesus said, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever. . . . I will not leave you as orphans” (John 14:16, 18a). The Christ who died for us and rose again requested that the Father send His Holy Spirit to us—and that request has been fulfilled.

When Jesus talks about “another advocate,” He uses the word for “another” that indicates one of the same kind. In other words, Jesus made sure we had someone like Him to help and empower us. The Spirit of God was sent to do for us what Jesus Christ did for His followers when He was here on this earth. The Spirit brings the life of Christ to us and does the work of Christ in us. That’s how we carry out Christian life and mission. As you pray this week, enter into a deeper awareness of the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life and allow Him to go deeper in doing the work of Christ in you.

Keep the faith!
